Sahaita's fundraiser to aid Bal Bhawan and Promote Health Awareness through the Medical Camps and our Health Booklet Sehatnama.

Sahaita held its Second Annual Fundraiser at Mehran Restaurant in Fremont, a new location instead of Rosewater Hall. The program went as planned. The night was packed with events that pleased the entire spectrum of the attending crowd. The program started with a welcome address by Dr. Devinder Singh Sandhu and he introduced the Master of Ceremony for the night, Mr. Parminder Guri. For the children, performances ranged from Kathak by three lovely young girls (Ahana Mukherjee, Marisha Pareek, and Samreen Sandhu) from the Chitresh Das Youth Company to a spectacular glow stick dance by the Behniwal Brothers. The main attraction of the night was a guest from Ohio, the young star of the community, Jasneet Kaur, who gave a thrilling exhibition of another aspect of kathak dance, and later a wonderful display of her instrumental skills on the saxophone. For the adults, there were also a wide variety of performances by professional artists such as Dr. Parminder Singh of the O’ Meri Mehbooba fame, Mr. Parminder Guri, Alka Bhatnagar the bollywood singer, Harpal Singh Harika, Tejinder Singh Sandhu, Seema, Geeta, the pimpJABI group from the central valley, and amateurs who wrapped up the night “re-living their teenage years” (as stated by Mr. Surinderjit Kaur Mahal). Dr. Rajinder Singh gave special presentations from India, which were very emotional, and he told guests what Sahaita has achieved in the past, and what Sahaita’s plans are for the future. Dr Upninderjit Singh Harrad (Dr. Jogi), who is also the coordinator of Sahaita’s Canadian Unit, entertained the crowd with his poetry and song along with a speech. Ms. Avninder Sandhu and Ruby Waraich gave awards to honor those who have supported Sahaita. Dr. Rajinder Singh was a bit reluctant to accept the award at first and needed a little psychological convincing from Dr. Jogi (who had the best joke of the night after Dr. Rajinder Singh finally accepted the award). Since the program was running a bit late, people were getting a little impatient and hungry. Dinner was provided by Mehran Restaurant and the crowd rushed for food as soon as it was setup. Nonetheless, the night went smoothly and Sahaita was able to raise funds through the help and support of our sponsors and guests. Sahaita is proud of the role played by the young members (Satin, Gaurav, Sukhbir and Rajpreet) of the organization who did a wonderful job of managing the entrance and welcoming the guests. This fundraiser not only allowed us to raise money, but also gave us an opportunity to inform guests where and how their money would be used. We are incredibly honored that we had audience from Ohio, Surrey (Canada), Yuba City, Sacramento, Stockton, Tracy, Modesto, Turlock, Davis and other Bay Area cities. We would once again like to thank everyone who has supported us and who attended the fundraiser. We are very grateful for Radio Apna Punjab for the live broadcast of this program, Amritsar Times and Punjab News for covering the event, and of course the wonderful photography by Kash Video’s Gurinder Purewal is worth mentioning. We look forward to seeing you next year with more information and a better program than this year.
