November 8, 2006

Sahaita held a health camp at Pholrriwal, Jallandhar, Punjab. A medical/eye camp was held at this village of S.Kuldip Singh Shergill (sponsor) from Milpitas,California by the coordinator of Sahaita in India, Dr. Rajinder Singh and the Sahaita team in India. The team saw 860+ patients and distributed 400+ free eye glasses. Over 200 patinets were screened for diabetes and 68+ patients had cataract surgeries. More than 200 copies of Punjabi and over a 100 copies of Hindi Sehatnama were distributed at this health camp.

September & October 2006

A team of Physicians and paramedical staff went to India from USA and Canada and joined with counter part form India for a 18 days visit( sept-oct). This visit was sponsored by Sahaita Inc. along with the active support of some community members. During this time the group had a marathon run of 6 medical camps in various areas of Punjab and one in Himachal examining and treating about 8000 patients. This is in itself a record that such a step has been taken by any NGO in such short time. Well over 200 cataract surgeries were performed in this month of October with phaco-emulsification and lens implants making it possible for that many patients to have the gift of vision. August 27, 2006

Sahaita held its Second Annual Fundraiser at Mehran Restaurant in Fremont, a new location instead of Rosewater Hall. The program went as planned. The night was packed with events that pleased the entire spectrum of the attending crowd. See the event page for more information.

Members of Sahaita helped in a Health Awareness Camp at the local Sikh Temple on Scott road in Surrey. Patients were screened for Blood pressure, Cholesterol and Diabetes problem.They were given appropriate guidance and advise by the various Physician who participated in this Free Clinic Organized by Dr. Gurmeet Singh Randhawa from Kelowna who has been holding this camp on the Miri Piri day celebrated by this Sikh Temple. Sehatnama was distributed to all the people who came to avail of this opportunity.

July 20, 2006

The members of newly registered Sahaita’s branch in Canada held a Fundraiser at Ravi Banquet hall Surrey, BC , Canada. Dr. Upinderjit Singh Harrad ( Dr. Jogi) and his team did a great job to make public aware of the activities of Sahaita organization. Dr. Jogi and Dr. Harkesh Sandhu from USA had radio talk with host Mr.Harjinder Singh Thind and Ms Isha Bhatia on Radio Red Fm 93.1 on that day. The Evening dinner and entertainment program was very much appreciated by the public. The performers on that day included Mr. Debi Makhsuspuri, Mr. Raj Brar and Mr. Sukhnain Singh. Two group of children participated with folk dances.Power point presentations depicting the times before and after Sahaita organization’s involvement in Bal Bhawan project and Health awareness. Mr. Jas Mundy, S. M.P. Singh, S. Jaswant Singh and S. Devinder singh played active role in making this event a success. Sanghera brothers( Parmjit, Surinder and kulwinder) played great role in giving the organization use the banquet hall and time on Radio station facility for promoting this event. The Funds collected are deposited in Sahaita’s account at CIBC and they will be used on project defined for Canadian branch of the organization.

June 18, 2006

Sahaita members organized a health awareness camp at the San Jose Sikh temple. Dr.Jasdeep Singh Bal, Dr. Inderpal Bal, Dr. Jagmohan Singh Khaira, Dr.Sonie Sandhu, Dr. Harkesh Sandhu, Dr. Ramneek Kaur, Dr. Amanpreet Kaur and Dr.Dalvir Singh Pannu participated in the clinic along with S. Kashmir Singh, Avtar Singh and his wife , Balbir Singh and Dr. N.T. Singh. They were helped by other members of the team Gaurav, Satin and Rajpreet with help of some prominent members of the community. Patients were screened for Hypertension, Diabetes, Hypercholestrolemia and evaluated by the providers and given advise. The Sikh temple management members S. Jaswant Singh Hothi and S. Surjit Singh Bains who are also members of Sahaita also actively participated in this event . Health awareness literature beside the Sehatnama was distributed to the public.

May 21, 2006

Members of Sahaita organized a Health awareness clinic at the Hayward Gurdwara Sahib with help from Gurdwara management. Patients were screened for cholesterol, diabetes and blood pressure problems beside obesity. There was very good reception to our effort and some local electoral candidates including Mayor of city visited the booths and appreciated what the organization does for the community. Patients were given awareness about health and health education materials were distributed. Some patients who needed medications were given prescriptions for the same. Seeing the response the Gurdwara management has approached us to hold this camp at least 3 times a year at the Gurdwara sahib.

May 14, 2006

Sahaita held its first Radio talk show with full support from Radio Apna Punjab in the Bay area, California. This was organized as a talk on Importance of Mothers and women as it happened to be Mother’s day. A health education talk on “Heart attack in women” was given to make women aware of the growing problem in our community. This also marked the beginning of our effort to reach more people via the internet and radio media. This will help Sahaita organization to further educate community members about various diseases and preventative aspect of healthcare. We plan to hold this talk show 2-3 times a month, and speakers from India, Canada and other parts of United States will give presentation on various illnesses covering different diseases affecting different ages. This effort will be complimenting our effort on health education for the same through Medical camps. [read more on Radio Talk Shows]

Members of Sahaita Incorporation, Fremont and Kaiser Permanente medical center, Fremont with the collaboration of Healthcare providers from Northern California presented this unique opportunity to members of the community. Our Mission was to provide health services including health and wellness education to individuals and families in need of healthcare assessment regardless of color, race and religion. February, 2006

There is a new lawn and playground made for the children at the Bal bhawan and it was finished in the month of February. Some trees are still to be planted to finish the landscape part of Bal bhawan complex. The space, which was dirt on the Bal bhawan residential compound area, has been replaced with bricks and cement to make it look nicer and safe especially during rainy season. In the month of February another event was celebrated with Dr. Rajinder Singh joining the children of Bal bhawan in celebrating birthday party arranged by Sahaita.

 

January, 2006

Sahaita participated in a medical camp held at ‘Livingston’, California on the occasion of festival of ‘Lohri’ In January. Free blood pressure and blood glucose tests were conducted for the elderly at the fair. People of different ages participated in it. After meeting the management of the Gurdwara sahib and the committee of the organizers including Dr. Gurpreet Dhugga, for festival celebration it was decided to make it a permanent venue for annual medical awareness camp in the month of January at the Gurdwara peach road,Livingston,Ca.

 

January, 2006

Children at the bal bhawan celebrated Lohri festival with Dr. Rajinder Singh and they were very happy to do this and Dr. Harkesh Singh talked to the children on the phone and congratulated them on this occasion and encouraged them to study hard for success. In the month of February another event was celebrated with Dr. Rajinder Singh joining the children in celebrating birthday party arranged by Sahaita.

 

December & January, 2005-2006

The new Sehatnama was also introduced to the board members, which have more chapters and broader approach to different areas of health care with inclusion of dental health, and yoga exercises beside healthy living. A good friend of Sahaita members ,Mr. Jadwinder Singh from Distt. Moga distributed 1000 copies of health education booklet Sehatnama at a function run by their family trust.
